SOCCER NEWS - Fast Eleven FC produced a notable upset in the Geolfa Heritage Soccer Tournament when they edged reigning champions Raul Stars FC out 1-0 at Themba-lethu Stadium on Saturday 19 September.
The Safa Eden Regional Men's League side made a bright start, with Mawande Msilelwa and Zefania Mabunda creating opportunities from midfield.
Raul Stars responded through Siyabonga Aseni and Lethu Scritsh, who tested the Fast Eleven defence.
Fast Eleven, however, broke the deadlock when Mkhanyisi Manciya found the back of the net following a set play from the centre of the field. The goal gave his side a 1-0 advantage at half-time.
Raul Stars came out strongly after the break, pushing forward in search of an equaliser and making use of the wings.
Lilitha Jantjies and Thabo Mtsha worked tirelessly on the right flank, but Fast Eleven's disciplined defence held firm.
Despite the sustained pressure, Raul Stars could not find a way through, and goalkeeper Endinako Mdaka conceded the decisive goal.
The Heritage Tournament knockout stages begin today, Thursday 24 September, and the semi-finals and final are scheduled for this weekend.
