GEORGE NEWS - In cold, wet conditions on Sunday afternoon, 4 August, the Zone 9 giants All Stars FC were crowned as the champions of the Councillor Hani soccer tournament after beating Abahlali FC 2-0 at the Lawaaikamp Stadium in George.
The two goals were scored by Letha Geza and Lithalethu Mcanjana.
The experienced All Stars shot stopper, Zola Choli, was one of the shining stars throughout the festival.
According to the tournament founder and organiser, Bongani Councillor Hani, the tournament was organised as a weekend competition for only the Ward 15, Zone 9 teams. He hopes to again host this kind of tournament in future - attracting more local sports clubs to take part.
The final game got off to a good start with both teams using smart touches on the ball.
All Stars scored one goal in the first half, stemming from a strong attack from the centre of the field and culminating in Letha Geza sending the ball into the goal.
The second half saw both teams more determined, with Abahlali FC pushing for their equalising goal. All Stars however took the game from Abahlali and moved forward into the box.
The second goal was scored by Lithalethu Mcanjana after set play from the centre of the field. Abahlali FC players were chasing the game but the stubborn defence of All Stars prevented them from breaking through.
