CRICKET NEWS - The George women's team has stopped the Union Stars women in their tracks, preventing them from winning their 10th consecutive title as the Six Gun Grill SWD Women's Division 1 champions.
George, who chased down the target of 140 on Saturday 8 February, was victorious with a six-wicket victory thanks to fine batting displays by Annerie Dercksen (62) and Hilda Nienaber 45*).
The defending champions, who batted first, were bowled out for 139, with Asakhe Nyovane (46) the top contributor with the bat.
Sonet Fourie (3/45) produced the best bowling figures for George. George surpassed the target with the last ball of the 39th over to win their first women's title.
George beat Union Stars by six wickets:
Union Stars 139 all out - 37.4 overs (Asakhe Nyovane 46, Micaela Andrews 26, Sonet Fourie 3/45, Candice Reynolds 2/15, Annerie Dercksen 2/24).
George 140/4 - 39 overs (Annerie Dercksen 62, Hilda Nienaber 45*, Jane Winster 2/33).
