GEORGE NEWS - It was a hard-fought and nail-biting contest, but a great team effort enabled SWD to record a 9-runs victory in their opening match in the CSA limited over competition that was played against Boland in Paarl.
Obus Pienaar (68; 81 balls, 1x6, 4x4) and Brendon Louw (54; 86 balls, 1x6, 1x4) were involved in an important partnership of 66 runs for the 5th wicket to enable SWD to post 211/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
Boland was in a strong position at 131/2 (in the 28th over) thanks to half-centuries by Simon Khomari (70 from 95 balls; 6x4, 1x6) and Hanno Kotzé (52 from 67 balls; 5x4, 1x6), but a great fightback by Marcello Piedt (4/45 in 10 overs), debutant Stefan Tait (4/42 in overs) and Neil Hornbuckle (1/22 in 8 overs) ensured a nail-biting 9-runs victory for SWD when they dismissed Boland for 202 (after 46 overs).
