GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Athletics South Western Districts (ASWD) participated in the ASA Youth and Junior Championships held in Germiston, Johannesburg, over the weekend of 26 to 28 March.
A team of 88 athletes was entered after qualifying at the ASWD and Schools Championships. The squad performed strongly, securing a total of 11 medals - comprising three gold, four silver and four bronze.
Athletics SWD placed ninth out of 17 provinces.
Additional top-eight finishes included eight fourth places, two fifth places, two sixth places, three seventh places and five eighth places.
Athletics SWD has entered nine athletes who will compete at the ASA Senior Championships in Stellenbosch from 16 to 18 April. These athletes are also medallists from the ASA Youth and Junior Championships.
Athletics SWD's executive board congratulated all the athletes and coaches on their performances and extended their best wishes to those concluding their final competition in Athletics SWD colours.

• James Hewitt, boys U16 triple jump - 12.61m (bronze)
• Equin Josephs, men U18 high jump - 1.95m (bronze)
• Juan Muller, boys U16 hammer throw - 51.09m (silver)
• Walter van Rensburg, men U20 shot put - 19.2m (bronze)
• Aquila Julies, boys U16 400m - 50.47s (silver).
