GEORGE NEWS - George Herald news editor Kristy Kolberg and freelance journalist Jeff Ayliffe tied the knot at the scenic Cornerstone Creek Restaurant and Wedding Venue in Hoekwil on Madiba Day, 18 July.

The couple celebrated their special day with family and friends who had travelled from near and far to share in the occasion.

"Marrying Jeff is honestly a dream come true. It was by far the best day of my life," said Kristy. "When we met in 2005, I could never have imagined what was waiting. Our trains just never stopped at the same station until 2021."

One of the highlights of the celebration was Jeff's surprise for Kristy: a heartfelt personal video message, followed by a special tribute from one of the couple's favourite singer-songwriters, Chris de Burgh.

Adding to the atmosphere, cool winter weather created a misty backdrop as warm fires kept the guests comfortable. Kristy's father, Ralf (86), had the guests in awe with his energetic dance moves. Although Kristy's mother, Ina, who passed away last September, could not be there to witness the occasion, her memory was very much part of the day. Jeff fondly recalled how Ina often joked that she had met him long before Kristy had, having listened to him for years as he was radio-presenting on KFM.

  Kristy and Jeff Ayliffe celebrate the beginning of their new chapter together after exchanging vows in a picturesque ceremony at Cornerstone Creek Restaurant and Wedding Venue in Hoekwil.  

For Kristy's colleagues, it was refreshing to see the softer side of a journalist who is best known for covering crime and reporting on some of the region's most difficult stories. Readers have also come to know Jeff through his video interviews and his genuine interest in people, sports, nature and wildlife.

The couple's shared love of nature has been a defining part of their relationship. Kristy is affectionately known among friends and colleagues as 'Dr Dolittle' for the countless hours she devotes to rescuing and caring for animals in need, while Jeff's passion for wildlife and the outdoors perfectly complements her own.

The wedding marked a significant milestone as Kristy and Jeff began married life surrounded by the people who mean the most to them.
