This afternoon, Charl du Toit and Fanie van der Merwe ran to first and third place respectively in the T37 100-metre track final.
The 25-year-old won gold at the Beijing games in 2008 and says after years of hard work he was able to replicate that achievement.
“I wanted to start things off with a bang for South Africa. We’ve got proud Paralympic history, if you want to call it that, I mean we saw Olympians doing a great job for Team South Africa.”
At the same time, South Africa has moved to 16th place on the Paralympic Games medals table.
