Six national sprint records have been set by SA men over Olympic distances this year, and MTN-Qhubeka are delivering some superb performances as the first African outfit to compete at the Tour de France.
Meanwhile, Carina Horn and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio have made history with breakthrough performances of their own. Horn won her heat at the World Challenge meeting in Madrid on Saturday in 11.06 seconds, equalling the 25-year-old national 100m record.
She went on to finish fourth in the final in 11.10, which was also faster than her previous personal best of 11.16, and after knocking on the door of the mark for the last two seasons, the 26-year-old speedster was relieved to achieve her goal.
“It really feels amazing, something you can’t describe,” Horn said on Monday.
“Just to think of how much work and time it took, though preparing for it is part of the dream. Now it’s a dream come true.”
