GEORGE NEWS - Several schools in George received some Green Awards last week for their dedicated participation in the Landmark Leopard Foundation’s Green Schools Programme through successful recycling projects.
The Green Award was created with the idea of recognising and thanking schools for their commitment and dedication to the community, the environment and animal welfare in George. Monica Vaccaro manages the programme for the foundation.
Schools are encouraged to become more conscious of the world around them and become more active in environmental preservation. The programme is aimed at mitigating climate change, biodiversity loss and all the factors that influence these issues, such as waste.
The programme is supported by the George Municipality, the Garden Route District Municipality and various waste recycling agents in George, such as LGE Waste and Henque Waste.
Vaccaro and Cllr Erika Brown of the George Municipality’s Community Services section handed over the awards.
