GEORGE NEWS - The DA announced the election of Browen Johnson as the new mayor of George at today’s Council meeting, earlier this afternoon.
Johnson is the former deputy mayor of George.
"As a qualified diagnostic radiographer, he has risen through the DA ranks since joining the party in 2019.
"He served many roles including Deputy Mayor, Whip of Council, Ward Councillor and Ward 23 Branch Chairperson," reads a statement by DA Constituency Head Venolea Fortuin and their provincial leader Tertuis Simmers.
The newly-elected deputy mayor is Gert van Niekerk, from the FF Plus - one of the DA’s coalition partners.
To support the mayor, a restructured Mayoral Committee (Mayco) has been appointed.
"In addition, we look forward to working with our coalition partners – the FF Plus and ACDP – to ensure stability in the municipality," reads the DA Statement.
"We are confident that Browen will elevate George, address the needs of residents and make local government even more accessible. We wish him immense success."
