More than 4 million people passed through South Africa’s ports of entry in December.
Stats SA says while the weakening rand might have an effect on the amount of travellers across borders in the months to come, the new visa regulations have not had a drastic negative affect.
Stats SA Deputy Director-General for population and social statistics Kelifoe Masiteng said, “It’s still early in time to start alluding or attributing any changes we see in arrivals or movement of people to the issues of visa which was just promulgated in June 2015.”
