Yesterday marked World Malaria Day under the global theme “end malaria for good”.
The disease is seasonal in South Africa and occurs in certain areas in Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
Malaria accounts for 40 percent of all public health spending on the continent, killing up to 438,000 people each year mainly in sub-Saharan Africa.
But, the World Health Organisation (WHO)'s world malaria report for 2015 states that there’s been a major decline in global malaria cases and deaths since the year 2000, with the mortality rate decreasing by 60 percent.
