But she has found herself at the centre of a Twitter firestorm while the party has been sharply criticised by the African National Congress (ANC).
DA leader Mmusi Maimane has referred the matter to the party's federal legal commission.
Kohler Barnard now faces disciplinary action.
The party’s national spokesperson Phumzile van Damme says the party's worked hard to counter claims it's a racist party that would bring back apartheid if it came into power.
“We're not that kind of party and it certainly doesn't help when our own members go out there and share posts that feed this kind of narrative”
