Popular tourist spots including Robben Island, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway and the V&A Waterfront all reported an increase in visitors over the month of December compared to the same period in 2014.
Robben Island has seen a 43 percent increase in numbers compared to last year for the same period, enabling them to create more jobs.
Spokesperson Nomonde Ndlangisa said, “We were able to employ about 12 guides for guiding tours. We have people on the frontline, so we’ve employed an excess of 20 people in this peak season.”
Western Cape Economic Opportunities MEC Alan Winde says this is good news as South Africa desperately needs to create jobs.
