NATIONAL NEWS - The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced that Toyota South Africa Motors (Pty) Ltd is recalling certain Toyota Urban Cruiser vehicles sold through its dealer network between 17 January and 3 June 2025.
The recall affects 2 208 vehicles, including 2 015 sold in South Africa. A further 193 vehicles were exported to neighbouring countries, comprising 14 to Eswatini, 23 to Botswana, five to Lesotho and 151 to Namibia.
Fault may cause incorrect fuel level readings
According to the NCC, a manufacturing defect in the vehicle's combination meter may have resulted in an incorrect calibration value being stored in the system.
This could cause the fuel gauge to display more fuel than is actually available in the tank.
As the fuel level drops, the low-fuel warning light may also fail to illuminate, increasing the risk that motorists could unexpectedly run out of fuel. This may cause the engine to stall or prevent it from restarting.
Owners urged to book free inspection
Owners of affected Toyota Urban Cruiser vehicles are encouraged to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised Toyota dealership for a fuel gauge inspection.
Toyota will carry out any necessary corrective work free of charge.
