NATIONAL NEWS - Parliament’s inquiry into the funding of political parties gets underway on Thursday morning.
The ad hoc committee set up to consider the public and private funding of parties is set to meet to consider the submissions it’s received and finalise its programme.
Seventeen organisations and individuals, including the African National Congress, Cosatu and lobby group My Vote Counts, have made written submissions to the committee.
Ad hoc committee chairperson Vincent Smith says he’s happy with the submissions received.
“Political parties, organised labour, academia, ordinary South Africans – so I am pleased with the spread of the submissions.”
Only two political parties, the ANC and the Azanian People’s Organisation, have made submissions.
