NATIONAL NEWS - DA MP Samantha Graham-Maré, who was recently appointed as National Shadow Minister of Electricity, has a difficult task ahead.
Electricity Minister Kgosientso Ramokgopa is supposed to oversee all aspects of the country's response to the ongoing electricity crisis, but as the other ministers connected to Eskom and the energy sector seem reluctant to let go, Ramakgopa may lack the power to do anything constructive about the general lack of power.
As shadow minister, Graham-Maré, who is also Dr Beyers Naudè Constituency Leader, must hold Ramakgopa accountable to deliver on plans to address the energy crisis and load-shedding, and thus may find herself in a Catch 22.
Graham-Maré is giving her first speech in this portfolio in about an hour for a debate on the establishment of an ad hoc committee to oversee the electricity minister. We wish her all the best.
An interview with Graham-Maré about her new, and hopefully ‘powerful’, position, will be published soon.
