NATIONAL NEWS - An elderly St Winifreds, KZN, resident was stabilised and rushed to hospital after he was bitten by a snake at his home yesterday.
PT Alarms spokesperson Dhevan Govindasamy says PT Ambulance Service was dispatched at around 09:00.
On arrival, the crew was informed that an elderly man had been bitten on the head by a snake.
“The medical crew acted swiftly as the suspected snake was said to be a green mamba, known for its neurotoxic venom. The elderly male was given treatment before being rushed to hospital for further medical intervention,” says Govindasamy.
A professional snake catcher who arrived and caught the snake confirmed, after it was caught, that it was a juvenile green mamba.
At the time of publication, the man was still in hospital in a stable condition.
The incident happened just as news of the death of Dingo Dinkelman, a reptile YouTuber, was announced.
He died on Saturday as a result of a green mamba bite four weeks earlier, due to an allergic reaction to the venom.
He spent the last month in a medically induced coma in hospital before passing away. Over the festive season in 2021, Dinkelman ran a popular snake exhibition in Galleria Mall, attracting thousands of people.
