NATIONAL NEWS - The Free State Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (Destea) has alerted the public following the escape of a leopard from a big cat facility on Mooifontein Farm yesterday near Reddersburg.
Bloemfontein Courant reports that according to the department, a preliminary investigation revealed the animal escaped through the top corner of Camp 5.
The farm owner reported that severe weather conditions caused significant damage, including fallen trees and a disconnected electric fence, which enabled the leopard to break free.
Environmental management inspectors from Destea, with a police search team, are currently on the ground working to locate and safely capture the animal.
Motorists and nearby communities are urged to remain vigilant. Anyone who spots the leopard is requested to contact Leepile Garekoe on 079 951 0200 immediately.
