NATIONAL NEWS - A total of 374 babies were abandoned in Gauteng over the past three years, and these figures are only increasing, even in Pretoria.
Many stories of abandoned babies in and around Pretoria have made the headlines in Rekord recently.
According to the Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu, 374 new-born babies have been abandoned in Gauteng hospitals over the last three years.
In Pretoria, a total of 54 babies were abandoned between 2013 and 2015:
– seven at Dr George Mukhari hospital in Ga-Rankuwa
– six at Steve Biko academic hospital in Capital Park
– seven at Kalafong hospital in Atteridgeville
– 17 at Mamelodi hospital
– six at ODI community hospital pharmacy in Mabopane
– 11 at the Tshwane district hospital
Currently one abandoned baby remains at the ODI community hospital pharmacy and two at the Tshwane district hospital.
