The problem, however, was that the up! range was rather limited by having only three-door variants. Now, VW SA has added new models to the range, including five-door options, a more rugged looking variant and even a new flagship, while also adding in a new infotainment option.
cross up!
The cross up! has been designed to look like a small SUV. In terms of its exterior features one will notice side mirrors painted in silver, anodised silver roof rails, black protective side moulding, fog lights with chrome trim surround, 16-inch ‘Cross’ alloy wheels and an additional 15mm ride height.
The interior features a leather steering wheel, exclusive ‘Cross’ seat trim in red or grey, coloured dash pad in deep black pearl (standard) or tornado red (optional) and scuff plates with ‘Cross’ lettering.
colour up!
The colour up! model is the new flagship derivative of the range. With additional features such as four airbags, ESP, power steering, front electric windows, remote central locking, leather steering wheel, radio/CD, front fog lights and height adjustable driver and front-passenger seats.
On the outside, the colour up! differentiates itself with 17-inch ‘Polygon’ alloy wheels (painted in red or sandstorm yellow), painted side mirrors (also in red or sandstorm yellow), dark tinted windows and decorative stripes on the side.
Powertrains
The two new derivatives are powered by the same 1.0-litre 55kW engine and mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
New infotainment
The optional Touch & More is a portable infotainment system which offers Bluetooth connectivity, SD card reader and drive applications that display factual information related to the vehicle. The five-inch colour touchscreen plugs into a sturdy bracket above the centre console, which connects it to the electronics network of the vehicle.
