The reigning European Car of the Year and currently Volvo’s best seller on local shores, the T3 joins the existing T5 and D4 models, and also debuts the brand’s new 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 115kW/265Nm.
Initially, the motor will be connected to a six-speed manual gearbox with an eight-speed Geatronic following at a later stage, while drive is routed to the front wheels only. Top speed is a claimed 200km/h with the 0-100km/h dash taking 9.4 seconds, with combined fuel consumption being rated at 6.2-litres/100km.
Model-wise, the T3 will again be offered in Momentum, Inscription and R-Design lines, with notable equipment, depending on the trim level, consisting of the nine-inch Sensus Connect infotainment system, Adaptive Cruise Control with Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving, City Safety Autonomous Braking, Pedestrian, Cyclists and Large Animal Detection, surround view camera system, Traffic Sign Recognition and Run-Off Road Mitigation with Run-Off Road Protection to name but a few.
In addition, Volvo has also reduced the XC40’s sticker prices with the T3 Momentum coming in at R3 000 less than originally stipulated, while at the sharp end, the all-wheel drive T5 R-Design Geartronic has seen its price slashed by R5 600.
A five year/100 000km warranty and maintenance plan over a similar period is again standard on all models.
