According to data collected by UK based parts company Quickco, the Japanese giant top scored in 74 out of the 193 countries surveyed, dominating search bars in North America, Australia, China, parts of Asia and South America, as well as in Greenland and Central African countries.
BMW ranked as the second most searched manufacturer in 51 countries ahead of Honda, Hyundai, Chevrolet, Renault, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot and Fiat. Somewhat surprisingly, Volkswagen only top scored in Spain, Romania, Estonia, Belarus, Andorra, Cape Verde and Uruguay, while Mercedes-Benz took honours in Finland, Ghana, Nigeria, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.
Dethroned by the Volkswagen Golf as the bestselling car of 2016, Volvo remained the most searched car brand in Sweden with home-grown pride also being reflected in France (Renault) and Italy (Fiat). The biggest oddities though were Bugatti in Niger, Suzuki in Costa Rica and Jaguar in Belize.
