Aside from the new Renault Koleos, which has so far not yet been confirmed for local introduction, both the new Ford Fiesta, Jeep Compass, Mercedes-Benz C-class Cabriolet, Opel Grandland X and recently refreshed Mazda CX-5 were awarded the coveted grading, with the latter equalling the Seat Ibiza, Toyota C-HR and Volvo S90/V90 for adult protection.
Not expected to arrive in South Africa anytime soon, the all-electric Opel Ampera-e managed only four stars while the recently launched Kia Rio, in standard spec, amassed a disappointing three stars with the same applying to the new Picanto. With the optional safety packages fitted though, the Rio achieved the maximum five stars and the Picanto four.
