Unveiled just over two years ago, the W213 generation E-class now rates as the oldest of the German Big Three mid-sized executive sedans with the BMW 5-series having debuted last year and the Audi A6 in February this year, indicating that a mid-life revision was due at some stage.
Pictured by motor1.com, the sedan only obscures its front and rear ends with heavy black masking, though apart from the cylinder shaped pre-production taillights, the rest appears production ready with the partially visible front clusters looking similar to those of the CLS.
The changes to the coupe meanwhile are seemingly more extensive, with the prototype not only obscuring its rear facia under layers of sliver tape, but also coming equipped with a white plastic front bumper, covers over the lights and a blacked-out grille minus the three-pointed star in addition to the aforementioned tape.
No images of either model’s interior have yet been seen, but expect both to possibly receive the MBUX infotainment system, expansive digital instrument cluster and upgraded materials and trim pieces. Underneath the bonnet, the E-class will more than likely come with tweaked versions of the current array of turbo-petrol and turbodiesel engines, as well as the EQ Boost range of electrified motors and possibly a plug-in hybrid.
According to reports, the revised E-class sedan is slated to arrive towards the end of 2019 or in early 2020, with the coupe arriving before the end of the decade.
