Aggregate total domestic sales for January increased by 3.7% to 50 333 units compared to the 48 514 sold over the same period last year. Individual segments also registered a welcome upturn with the market for passenger vehicles improving by 4.7% from 35 153 to 36 794, the first increase in nearly 14 months.
Light commercial vehicles posted a minimal 1.6% gain with 11 977 sales compared to 2016's 11 790, while medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles sales declined by 3.0% and 1.5% respectively. Refurbishments at BMW's Rosslyn Plant however contributed in exports recording a noticeable decline of 10.3% from 14 343 units to 13 001.
