With the exception of the quirky all electric Citroën e-Mahari that obtained three stars, and the DS7 Crossback that is unlikely to reach local dealership anytime soon, the remaining vehicles are already available in South Africa or due to arrive next year. These include the Jaguar E-Pace and new Porsche Cayenne, while those already on sale include the new BMW X3, Subaru Impreza and XV.
One of the most highly awaited new models to touch down next year, the Mercedes-Benz X-class, lived up to its upmarket hype by being the award not only the maximum five stars, but also a rating of 77% for driver assistance systems, bettered only by the re-assessed Honda Civic.
"Unsurprising as these results may be to some, these ratings continue to represent outstanding engineering achievements. This should not be taken for granted given the fact that Euro NCAP’s rating regime now includes over 15 different tests and hundreds of individual requirements, which are strengthened all the time," Euro NCAP Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen, said in a statement.
