Once again based on details from the automaker’s online configurator, the recently unveiled cabriolet will go on sale soon after the coupe, and likewise be offered solely in top-spec M850i xDrive guise. This means the same 390kW/750Nm 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 engine as the hard-top, teamed to an eight-speed Steptronic gearbox and xDrive all-wheel drive, which allows for a top speed of 250km/h and 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds.

Available in a choice of eight colours; Alpine White, Mineral White Metallic, Carbon Black Metallic, Dravit Grey Metallic, Black Sapphire Metallic, Barcelona Blue Metallic, Sonic Speed Blue Metallic and Sunset Orange Metallic, the cabriolet will sport the same assortment of interior finishes and upholstery choices as the coupe, and indeed features.
Of these features, standard items include the BMW Live Cockpit Professional layout made up of the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch iDrive infotainment system with 7.0 operating system, the BMW Digital Key, M leather wrapped steering wheel, ventilated and heated front seats with integrated neck warmers, M Sport brakes and differential, High Beam Assist, Parking Assistant Plus, Tyre Pressure Monitor, wireless smartphone charger, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, Adaptive LED headlights and automatic boot.

From the options list, buyers can have a 16-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System (R54 500), Shadow Line exterior package (R7 100), the M Carbon exterior pack (R51 500), Laserlight LED headlights (R21 900), M branded seatbelts (R4 400), Night Vision system with object detection (R32 000), the Adaptive M Professional system (R38 400) and like the coupe, the so-called Glass Applications pack (R9 400) that adds a glass finish to the gear lever, iDrive Controller and various buttons on the transmission tunnel.
Pricing for the 8-series Cabriolet starts off at R2 009 859, some R122 032 more than the coupe.
