GEORGE NEWS - Some of the country’s top achievers attended a breakfast function in Johannesburg this morning, 12 January, including York High’s head girl and 2025 dux learner, Abigail Kok.
A total of 40 learners were invited to the function at the MTN offices in Fairland, Johannesburg, where they were welcomed by the Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, the Department of Education’s Director of Sport and Enrichment Given Mabena and Panyaza Lesufi, the Premier of Gauteng.
Speaking to the national news agency, Netwerk24, at the event, Kok said it felt unreal to have been invited to the occasion.
During last year’s final matric exams, George Herald had the privilege of speaking to Kok about her impressions of the accounting paper, which drew some complaints from many learners.
Her insights into both the accounting and Afrikaans papers made it clear she had prepared thoroughly for her exams and had managed her time carefully across the various sections of each paper.
This year, Kok will be studying data science at Stellenbosch University.
Meanwhile, Gwarube is expected to address the nation tonight at 18:00, on the eve of the release of the 2025 matric results.
