GEORGE NEWS - The Total Shutdown Women's March in George will start at 10:00 today, Wednesday 1 August, at the corner of Market and Cradock streets.
Women from all walks of life are invited to join this march against gender-based violence.
Banners and posters are welcome.
The march has been approved by law enforcement, and the police and traffic control will be in attendance. No violence will be tolerated. "We will not meet the violence we are standing up against by protesting violently," say the organisers.
The organisers ask that women who attend wear black with a touch of red and refrain from turning the event into a political rally.
The march will end at the Civil Engineering Directorate (Old Town Hall) in York Street around 12:00. George Mayor Melvin Naik will be there to accept a memorandum.
