GEORGE NEWS - Notice was received from George Municipality regarding the status of water supply.
Status of water supply
Certain lower areas in Wilderness are now also experiencing no water. Interim supply will be put in place - Water Truck stationed near Wilderness Hotel.
Other areas continue with low water pressure – please keep consumption to a minimum.
Wilderness Heights has no water – water trucks stationed from 6am – 9pm daily at three points (Wilderness Heights Shop / Cnr Silver and Whites Rd / Remskoen Rd
The Water Works in Wilderness has a fixed capacity and is augmented by the supply of water from George along the railway bridge. With the George supply not in working presently, water trucks were up until yesterday being used to maintain the levels of the affected reservoirs. The heavy rains of yesterday have however led to the access roads to the reservoirs becoming impassable and the trucks were unable to continue filling any of the reservoirs today.
Interim water supply
The interim water supply measures of three water trucks for Wilderness Heights remain in place and are available daily from 6 – 9pm for consumers to collect water. The water trucks remain stationed at the Wilderness Heights shop, on the corner of Silver and Whites Roads and at Remskoen Road for consumers to collect water with their own containers. Please note these water trucks do need to refill at times so if they are not seen, they will return.
A fourth water truck will be stationed near the Wilderness Hotel for access to water by the lower areas in Wilderness.
Intermittent supply
The water supply to the eastern areas will be reduced during the night in an attempt to provide more water to the western areas.
The intention is to balance the system by alternating supply to the reservoirs serving the Wilderness and Touwsranten areas thereby allowing all areas of Ward 4 as listed above, to have access to water albeit at low pressure, for the duration of the repair. The alternating of the supply to fill the reservoirs will take place during low peak times (mid-morning / mid-afternoon and during the night).
However in order for this to work it is imperative that ALL consumers in Ward 4 (Hoekwil, Kleinkrantz, Kleinkrantz Farms, Pine Dew, Touwsranten, Wilderness, Wilderness Heights, The Dunes, and Drie Valleyen (Portion) PLEASE keep water consumption to a MINIMUM to allow water to be distributed throughout the entire system and note that during the low peak times when water is being pumped to fill reservoirs, areas that now have water may experience low water pressure or no water.
