GEORGE NEWS - The Wilderness Ratepayers and Residents Association will host the launch of Being There, the latest book by Tony Leon, one of South Africa's most experienced political figures and commentators.
Leon, who served over a decade as leader of the official opposition in Parliament and later as South Africa's ambassador to Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, draws on his extensive political experience to reflect on leadership, diplomacy and the unpredictable world of South African politics.
The book provides a first-hand account of historic moments, including the formation of the recent Government of National Unity, and offers insights into some of the key figures who shaped modern South Africa and global events, from Nelson Mandela, FW de Klerk and Yasser Arafat to Ariel Sharon and Boris Johnson. Leon also explores contemporary political challenges, from social media pressures to the difficulties of fundraising in turbulent times.
At the launch, Leon will share stories from his long career in public life, discuss the lessons he has learnt, and engage with the audience on the state of democracy today.
A qualified attorney, former constitutional law lecturer and author of six books, Leon brings his trademark wit and sharp perspective to Being There, combining reflection on the past with insights on the present and future of South African politics.
Join Tony Leon for an evening of candid reflections and political insight in conversation with Roy Marcus at the Fairy Knowe Hotel, Wilderness, on Wednesday 26 November. Registration opens at 17:30 and the talk starts at 18:00, followed by a Q&A and cash bar. Tickets are R250 on Quicket.
