GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - The formal bail application of Johannes Jacobs (53) and Gert Bezuidenhout (37), who are accused of the murder of controversial businessman and alleged Cape Town underworld figure Mark Lifman (57), is expected to be heard in the George Magistrate's Court this morning.
Lifman was shot dead in a meticulously planned assassination at 11:38 on Sunday 3 November in the parking area at the Garden Route Mall. The suspects were apprehended at 16:00 the same afternoon near Uniondale.
According to reliable sources, both suspects work in the security industry as bodyguards. Both are skilled marksmen who participate in shooting competitions nationwide.
Jacobs is a former police officer who was part of the police's specialist task team. He was dismissed from the police in 1998/1999.
George Herald has been granted permission to take photos and videos during today and tomorrow's court proceedings.
