GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) goes out of its way to give the animals in their care the best life possible and they constantly strive to achieve this objective.
The most recent initiative in this venture is the Free Range SPCA initiative. It gives their adoption dogs the opportunity to roam freely during the day in one of their 10 play pens to enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and each other and at night they have a warm, cozy kennel to sleep in.
"At the GRSPCA we believe in providing the best possible care for our animals, and this new program is a testament to our commitment. During dedicated volunteer dog walking sessions, our passionate volunteers work with the dogs and cats, taking them for walks and providing socialisation opportunities. This not only keeps them active and healthy, but also helps them interact with other dogs," says GRSPCS committee member Heather Church.
With regular walking sessions, the dogs get the exercise they need and the cuddles they crave, while new and nervous dogs receive the love and encouragement they need to find their forever homes.
Animals, just like people, have their own preferences when it comes to socialising, therefore each dog is carefully placed with the right group.
"With this new initiative our dogs are happier and more relaxed, creating a welcoming environment for prospective adopters to see them in action. When you visit us, you can see how our dogs interact with different companions. It's a heartwarming sight that showcases the connections they develop and the friendships they build," says Church.
However, now more than ever, the GRSPCA needs passionate volunteers who can help continue their work.
The dogs and cats crave human interaction, love, and attention above all else. Spending quality time with caring individuals on a regular basis is crucial for their well-being, especially for the adorable puppies.
If you would like to make a difference and contribute to the happiness of the animals, join the dog walking and cat cuddling volunteer program.
These sessions take place every Wednesday and Saturday morning, from 09:00 to 11:00 (weather permitting).
