WESTERN CAPE NEWS - The Western Cape Disaster Management Centre (WCDMC) received a severe weather warning report from South African Weather Services (SAWS) for 21 – 22 June 2019.
The severe weather report included heavy rain, strong winds and coastal storm surges for the Metropole, Overberg and Cape Winelands District Municipalities.
The WCDMC disseminated this warning to all the necessary disaster management role players in the province.
WEATHER UPDATE
Post frontal weather conditions are currently being experienced.
Showers are still expected for the day, with a small chance of thunderstorms expected over the Overberg coast this morning and south coast in the afternoon. High seas (6-9m waves) from Cape Columbine spreading to Plettenberg Bay are expected. Strong to gale force winds are still expected along the south coast.
A watch for heavy rain along the Garden Route is valid for today and early tomorrow morning.

Incidents of electricity disruption as a result of fallen trees have been reported in Ravensmead and Claremont. In addition, power outages were reported in the Big Bay, Melkbosstrand and Athlone areas.
