GEORGE NEWS - The Thembalethu police detectives are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a deceased man and tracing his next of kin, as well as finding the next of kin of another dead man. These two were found in unrelated circumstances in September.
According to police reports, on 14 September, a man was admitted to the George Provincial Hospital after having consumed an unknown substance. The medical personnel later declared him dead.
The deceased was identified as Welcome Jovuka (52). However, his body has not yet been claimed by any relatives, and the efforts to trace his next of kin are ongoing.
In a separate incident on 20 September, the Thembalethu Police were called out to the pump station in Matroos Street, Zone 1, where the body of an unidentified man was found.
The man, believed to be in his early 20s, was wearing a striped blue T-shirt, khaki pants and a black beanie. The police have confirmed that no foul play is suspected in this case.
Inquest dockets have been opened in both matters and the autopsies have already been conducted. The results form part of the ongoing police investigations.
Anyone with any information to identify the one deceased or trace both men’s families is urged to contact Warrant Officer Kevin Douglas of the Thembalethu Detectives Branch on 044 802 8950 or 084 205 5746.
