GEORGE NEWS - The roll-out of Phase 4B of the Go George bus service will again come under the spotlight during a community march planned for tomorrow, Tuesday 10 March.
The march is scheduled to start at the Parkdene taxi rank at 09:00.
Protesters will move along Nelson Mandela Boulevard to York Street and finish opposite the George Municipality where memorandums will be handed over to representatives of the Department of Transport, George Municipality and the provincial traffic department.
Xola Swapi, one of the organisers, is appealing to the community to attend the march. He told George Herald they expect around 400 people. “People from Blanco, Pacaltsdorp, Conville, Rosemoor, Borcherds, Parkdene and Rosemoor will join us in the march tomorrow,” said Swapi.
Matters the organisers want addressed, according to a notice distributed in the various communities in George, include:
* The roll-out of Phase 4B;
* The disadvantage of taxi-owners of Parkdene, Lawaaikamp, Borcherds/Conville;
* The abuse of power by provincial traffic officers in George;
* The cause of death of Tom Qweba, Sikhumbuza Mini and Tebogo Prince Mmola;
* The infrastructure issues in Lawaaikamp and Borcherds;
* The pay-roll of the directors of Go George; and
* Other transport issues in George.
