Update
GEORGE NEWS - Since the announcement last week that the Go George bus service will finally roll out to Conville, Parkdene, Ballotsview, Borcherds and Lawaaikamp on Sunday 22 March, it's been all hands on deck to ensure a smooth entry this time round.
The planned roll-out in April last year was postponed three days prior to roll-out.
According to James Robb, Go George manager, the entire team is ready to go. "Roll-out plans were actioned the minute the announcement came through; the excitement and energy levels in our offices and meetings are palpable - we want to take the buses to the people!" he said.
"We realise that the community was bitterly disappointed when the planned roll-out did not take place last year, but we hope to be received with the same enthusiasm as before when our communication champions return to visit their neighbourhoods shortly."
Four routes
The four routes will cover Parkdene - CBD (Route 15), Parkdene - Garden Route Mall (Route 16), Parkdene - Blanco (Route 18), and a comprehensive community route (Route 51) covering the streets of Conville, Parkdene, Ballotsview, Lawaaikamp and Borcherds.
This will connect these neighbourhoods with existing Go George routes operating in and between the CBD, Pacaltsdorp, Denneoord, Loerie Park, Rosemoor, Blanco, Heatherlands, Heather Park and the Garden Route Mall.
Door-to-door visits
The Go George team of Communication Champions will start a first round of door-to-door visits within the next week, refreshing the community's knowledge and understanding of how to use the bus service and again handing out printed information.
The handy user guide and timetable brochures will enable prospective passengers to plan their routes and trips.
At the same time, the Go George communications team will visit clinics, libraries and central places of gathering to reach larger groups with this information and answer their questions.
