GEORGE NEWS - A celebratory mood filled a packed Thembalethu Community Hall today for a visit by Deputy President Paul Mashatile.
Mashatile, also deputy president of the ANC, was in George as part of national festivities to celebrate the 113th anniversary of the party which was established on 8 January 1912.
Supporters and regional leaders came from as far as Knysna, Oudtshoorn, Kannaland, Mossel Bay and Hessequa to attend the event.
The Youth League, SACP, Women’s League and Cosatu were represented. MP Cameron Dugmore and Police Minister Senzo Mkhunu were among the VIPs.
Mashathile spoke, among others, about the renewal of the ANC and rebuilding of the branches to strengthen the organisation to take it forward.
The Thembalethu Community Hall was filled to the brim.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu gave a short speech.
Children joined in the festivities and got seats on the floor right in front of the stage.
