GEORGE NEWS - Pacaltsdorp Police Station is buzzing with pride and celebration as one of its own, Reservist Constable Nico Luiters, achieved an extraordinary milestone.
Luiters was awarded the coveted Reservist of the Year title at the South African Police Service National Excellence Awards, held in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, 26 January.
This recognition comes after Luiters already made waves by clinching the same title at the provincial awards ceremony in Cape Town on 18 January. Winning at both levels is a monumental achievement, not only for Luiters but also for the Garden Route District and the Pacaltsdorp Police Station.
For 20 years, Luiters has served with exceptional dedication and tireless effort. As one of the top arresters in the district, he has made significant contributions to reducing contact crimes and tackling substance abuse.
His recent achievements include 72 arrests for drug possession, 60 for dangerous weapons, and others for ammunition, assault, and extortion.
Luiters has also supported 252 operations through his informer network and taken on the vital role of mentoring new constables, ensuring the next generation of officers is well-prepared to serve.
To celebrate this remarkable accomplishment, the Garden Route District Commander, Major General Phumzile Cetyana, hosted an intimate ceremony at his office in George on Monday 27 January.
Addressing the gathering, Cetyana commended Luiters and all the other members who were awarded, for their dedication and passion for serving the community.
“I am immensely proud of every member who participated and was recognised for their hard work and dedication,” said Cetyana.
Luiters could unfortunately not attend the gathering as he was still on his way back from Durban.
