GEORGE NEWS - The sudden resignation of former Acting Municipal Manager Dawie Adonis on 7 October brought many questions that are yet to be answered.
In Adonis' letter of resignation he stated that he believes the selection process of the vacant municipal manager position to be compromised. He alleged that there was a deliberate attempt from the selection committee to manipulate the interview and presentation scores to yield a positive outcome for a favoured candidate.
Asked about the current situation and the next step to be taken, Acting Municipal Manager Godfrey Louw said Mayor Jackie von Brandis is currently preparing an item to Council for consideration.
"Council will apply its mind diligently to the matter at hand and we will await the outcome of that process," said Louw.
The exact date of the council meeting where this item will be discussed is not known at this point.
Since Adonis' resignation, Louw has been appointed as acting municipal manager with immediate effect, for a period of three months.
Louw is a former municipal manager of Eden District Municipality, before its renaming to Garden Route District Municipality.
