GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route Food Pantry was proud to host a delegation of special guests from the Western Cape Department of Agriculture last Thursday, 28 July. Minister of Agriculture, Dr Ivan Meyer, was invited by Carl van Blerk, founder of the Garden Route Food Pantry, to tour the facility and discuss collaboration possibilities with the Western Cape Government.
Meyer complimented the management of the NGO stressing the positive feedback he had heard from both Garden Route District Mayor Memory Booysen and George Mayor Leon van Wyk.
"We are excited to also be working with provincial government as the relationship can only open more doors for us in order to accomplish our task of ending hunger and malnutrition in the Garden Route," says Van Blerk.
"We have already discussed some exciting opportunities which could see the culmination of our new pasta kitchen project as well as extending our community food gardens programme."
Van Blerk also encourages all local industries and the general public to strongly consider supporting the Garden Route Food Pantry, whether it be in financial aid or services, as we are likely to see a strong upswing in the need for poverty relief in the region, and food security is at the base of all social issues such as crime, health and education challenges.
