Twenty-four bakers entered the competition judged by Marius Uys, the 'Onthoukok' from kykNET's Kokkedoor Season 1, and resident chefs Godfrey Lawler, Nadia van Heystein and Mzukisi Mofemele. The competition was divided into 'Cakes' and 'Tarts' and these were sampled and judged.
The overall winner of the Great Oubaai Bake Off was Tyrone Schroder, who produced an array of tartlets, ranging from milk, apple and pecan. In the cake category, Wendy Pistorius's beautiful cheese cake took first prize with Desiree Voges and Riana Zander following close on her heels. Mariza van Deventer's lemon tart impressed the judges enough to win first prize. Lynn Cronje and Cindy Helm took second, and third prize respectively.
Van Deventer offered her winning lemon tart for auction and an ecstatic Fleur de Bruyn's winning bid of R220 ensured that she walked away with this magnificent tart.
Once the prize giving was complete, the cakes and tarts were sliced and sold for R5 per slice. In total R2 880 was raised.
