GEORGE NEWS - The junior mayor of George, Ludolph Pedro, represented the Garden Route at a virtual Youth Parliament hosted by Western Cape Parliament Speaker Masizole Mnqasela on Monday 28 June.
With the theme "365+ days - Youth Lived Experiences under Covid-19 in the Western Cape", the event provided a platform for youth leaders to engage on the effects of Covid-19 on the young people of the province.
Several notaries and role players addressed the youth on their fields of expertise, including the chairperson of the ad hoc committee on Covid-19, Mireille Wenger; Western Cape Minister of Education Debbie Schäfer; members of the Western Cape parliament; political youth leaders; Matthew du Plessis of the Human Rights Commission; Tessa Goldschmidt of the Office of the Commissioner for Children and Chris Balie of the Electoral Commission of South Africa.
The emphasis was on how the different sectors are addressing the difficulties the pandemic has thrown in the way of the youth to overcome. Ludolph Pedro was one of the participants that took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions to the education minister, Debbie Schäfer.
