GEORGE NEWS - The identity of a pedestrian (53) who was hit and killed by a vehicle while apparently hitch-hiking next to the N2 highway on Saturday 14 August, has not yet been released.
"The investigation officer is in the process to trace the next of kin of the deceased who is believed to be in the Eastern Cape and his identity still needs to be verified," said Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies.
The accident happened on the side of the N2 in the direction of Wilderness near the Garden Route Mall at approximately 09:00. A VW Polo, which was travelling to Gqerberha, left the road and hit the man who was standing next to the road.
The victim sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.
The cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed.
