GEORGE NEWS - It's been just over a week since members of the Hawks Commercial Crime Investigation team paid a visit to George Municipality last Tuesday. Several documents and electronic equipment were seized from the office of the Municipal Manager, Trevor Botha.
Capt Philani Nkwalase, Hawks spokesperson, at the time confirmed that the private homes of some of the people of interest were raided, as well as several offices.
Nkwalase said the investigation relates to the alleged fraud and corruption emanating from the failure to follow due process regarding the appointment and filling of a vacant post. He did not want to disclose any names and no arrests were made.
Nkwalase confirmed yesterday that the investigation is ongoing, with no new development at this stage. "The documents and electronic equipment have been seized for further investigation. That will take some time. Since no charges have been laid yet, we can't name and shame individuals at this stage. Currently they are only people of interest," he said.
