GEORGE NEWS & VIDEOS - Fires are causing chaos in several places in and around George.

The George Fire brigade is inundated today, Wednesday 18 May, with several veld fires and residential fires in, among others, Groenkloof and Kraaibosch Ridge.

Photos that do the rounds show smoke and fire behind built-up areas in Kraaibosch and Groenkloof. Some residents are preparing to evacuate their homes.

Fire services from both George and the Garden Route District Municipality are being deployed in various areas across town.

Apart from a large veld fire in the Hansmoeskraal area that has been burning since yesterday, residents reported fires that are visible in the area of Kraaibosch Ridge, Groenkloof, behind George Dam, Ring Road, in Zone 1 in Thembalethu and New Dawn Park.

George Municipality urges the public not to start fires in this windy weather as any fire breakage may cause more problems. A status report of the fires will be released as soon as it is ready.
