GEORGE NEWS - Today marks the grand finale of the Ebrahim Patel Community Cup (EPCC) at Outeniqua Park, and rugby fans are in for an action-packed day, starting with the first whistle at 08:20.
George Rugby Club will lock horns with Crusaders in a high-stakes Wild Card play-off – with a coveted spot in next year’s tournament up for grabs.
At 10:00 it’s a showdown for pride as Groot Brak takes on St George’s in a battle for seventh place.
The tempo rises as Bridgton and the PE Harlequins face off in the third-place play-off at 11:45, each eager to end their campaign on a winning note.
Then at 13:20, it’s time for the Plate Final, where Heidelberg will meet a fired-up Safcol United.
Safcol bounced back strongly after their opening loss to Bridgton last Thursday, storming past Groot Brak with a dominant 41-19 win to book their place in the final. Heidelberg, meanwhile, cruised past a lacklustre St George’s side 49-12 in their semi-final.
And finally, the moment everyone’s been waiting for, the grand finale at 15:20 when Gardens will take on Robertson Town.
Both teams are backed by passionate supporters, but it was the Robertson fans who stole the show on Saturday, filling the stadium with electrifying cheers and spirited songs. Their team didn’t disappoint, either, toppling the defending Sanlam Boland Top 12 champions, PE Harlequins, with an emphatic 47-20 victory.
