GEORGE NEWS - With the focus on the impact alcohol has on motorists and its contribution to road carnage, local and provincial traffic departments together with other enforcement entities have started setting up various roadblocks in anticipation of the upcoming Easter weekend.
The focus will be on vehicles that are overloaded, driver and vehicle fitness, driving under the influence of alcohol and the wearing of safety belts by all occupants.
There will be random screening of drivers daily, and there will be a big focus on long-distance public transport such as taxis, midibuses and bigger buses to ensure that they comply with the various acts and that commuters and other road users are safe.
