The competition, organised by the SWD Driver Academy and the George Municipality, forms part of the International Driver of the Year competition and was held at the premises of the Provincial Traffic Department in York Street.
The assessment tests included a road test, a pre-trip inspection to make sure that they know how to check their vehicles before a trip, and a track orientation, with different obstacles to test their skills. The partcipants were drivers from George and Knysna.
Similar competitions were held in Oudtshoorn, Riversdale and Mossel Bay, during which seven drivers were chosen to represent each town or region as spectators at the Exhibition of the World Professional Drivers' Championship, which will be held at Sun City in August. The World Professional Drivers' Championship is held for professional drivers, enabling them to evaluate themselves against the best in the world. South Africa is the only member to participate in Africa.
